Healthy Eating can be Easy

Friday, 30 May 2014

Okay Moms...Be honest.  How many times have we said, "I don't have time to eat healthy."  I certainly have. After a long day of errands, work, and taking care of my kids (<-- the hardest part, by the way!) I find myself super exhausted as the dinner hour comes around.  Sometimes, it is just so easy, and tempting to order take out.  But, then we feel guilty because the food we are eating doesn't fuel us or make us feel better afterwards.  In fact, it just fills up space, leaving us with less energy.

I'm not saying that the take out pizza or Thai curry is not my friend, because it is!  There are times when they save the day to save me some time.   Thank you, Khao Thai :)  But, I've found that with a bit of planning, I can feed my family the foods that fuel us, that are made in a healthy way.  I even filmed a short clip below, describing this tip.

All it takes is a little prep.  Then all you have to do is take it out of the freezer when you need that homemade meal without any extra work.  A website I like to visit, The Bump, has 12 make-ahead freezer meals for Moms-to-be.  I've even started to prep a big salad at the beginning of the week.  Then I just take a portion each day, add dressing and it's set.  So easy!

Cut yourself some slack if you treat yourself to some take out every now and then.  It is a necessary part of our busy lives sometimes.  Prepping and freezing meals ahead of time helps you to find balance, and will ultimately offer you more time with your family.  Then, we discover, we DO have time to eat healthy!

Next week, I'll talk about how important it is to read and listen to positive birth stories during pregnancy.

Happy cooking!  Mmm, I may have to find a recipe to make my own Red Curry now...

Love,
Amy
