Grateful

Wednesday, 26 November 2014

As we were grocery shopping today, creating and checking off lists, and attempting to tidy up the house in preparation of Thanksgiving, I had to do my own "gratitude check in."  Sure there's lots to do, but I love it.  I pretty much never accomplish preparing for a large family gathering without the help of my family, usually my mom and mother-in-law (this years production is made possible by Grandma and Papa)  I am bad at prepping.  Yep, everything usually falls together somehow at the end with everyones help.  Most of the time, the house feels like chaos, and it's good chaos.  I love it.

My latest trick has been my "gratitude check in."  When I feel like complaining, I try to stop myself, and realize how lucky I am to be able to shop for an abundance of food.  I'm incredibly lucky to have a house to clean and organize.  I am beyond lucky to have to rock my baby to sleep again and again at all hours of the night.  These things take time, energy, and are sometimes stressful, but I would not have life any other way.  Full of busy, chaos, and joy.  Don't be fooled, I complain.  I lose my temper with my 3 year old (because they are crazy makers and heart melters alll at the same time!) But I'm grateful for all of it, because it makes life more colorful, rich and so very full.  So, yes, I complain, feel frazzled and crazy at times, but more than anything, I am overwhelmed with gratitude.

Try your own "gratitude check in" before complaining about something someone else would love to have. It is easy and natural to immediately go into complaint mode.  I'm working on rewiring my reactions to go with Gratitude first.

I hope you have a fantastic holiday full of crazy, wonderful chaos!
