I grew up dancing at age 5 and have been fortunate to make a career out of it. After experiencing life as a dancer in New York City and learning more about determination, hope, struggle, and community than I ever thought I would, the transition to yoga seemed natural to me. Stepping onto my mat and out of the constant, electrifying buzz that is city life, gave me the opportunity to simply slow down. Yoga taught me how to breathe, how to really listen to my body and how to find more compassion for myself and for others.
What opened my eyes to a new form of compassion was my certification through The Prenatal Yoga Center. The course revealed to me how powerful and strong women are. It supported the truth that our bodies are designed to create life. We are capable of growing and birthing our babies. I wanted to continue to share this positive message throughout my yoga teaching. Women are intuitive beings, we must never forget this. When we layer this intuition with education, we feel more confident in the choices we make, whether we are pregnant or not.
Movement helps us to feel better physically, mentally and emotionally. Through this outlet, we learn greater lessons from ourselves. Building an online community to share more positive home and hospital birth stories with each other is another goal of mine. We must lift each other up and, support each other. Celebrate the path you are on, and know that your journey is beautiful and unlike anyone else’s, but respect that each one of us takes our own route. Taking better care of ourselves opens our hearts to take better care of others. That is what makes the world a richer place.
